Understanding Project Stages

Below is a breakdown of the key stages that define a project’s journey from concept to completion.

Upcoming

Announced

The project has been officially declared by the owner or developer. Basic information such as location, sector, and initial investment estimate may be available, but detailed planning has not yet started.

Study

Feasibility studies, technical assessments, environmental impact studies, and preliminary financial evaluations are conducted to determine project viability.

Planning

The project scope is defined in detail. Budget estimates, timelines, approvals, land acquisition, and stakeholder details are announced.

Pre-Design

Initial conceptual designs and layouts are prepared. Key technical specifications and major equipment considerations are outlined before detailed engineering begins.

Design

Detailed engineering and technical drawings are developed. Specifications, layouts, materials, and system designs are finalized.

FEED (Front-End Engineering Design)

A highly detailed pre-construction engineering phase that defines project scope, cost estimates, technical requirements, and execution strategy to a level sufficient for final investment decision and tendering.

Tenders

Pre-Qualification / Pre-Tender

Contractors are invited to submit their credentials and technical capabilities. The owner shortlists qualified bidders before the main bidding process.

Main Contract Bid

Shortlisted contractors submit commercial and technical proposals for executing the project.

Bid Evaluation

Submitted bids are reviewed, compared, and evaluated based on cost, technical compliance, experience, and capability.

Contract Award

Contract Award

The selected contractor is officially awarded the project contract.

Construction Begins..

Pre-Construction

Site preparation, procurement of materials, workforce planning, and initial groundwork activities are carried out.

Ongoing / Under Construction

Active construction work is in progress. Civil, mechanical, electrical, and other works are being executed on-site.

Completed / Commissioned

Construction is finished, testing is completed, and the project is operational and handed over to the owner.

Cancelled

The project has been officially terminated and will not proceed further.

On Hold

The project is temporarily paused due to financial, regulatory, strategic, or market-related reasons.

Shutdown / Partial Shutdown

An operational facility is either fully stopped or partially halted, usually for maintenance, upgrade, or due to operational or market constraints.
